Adolescent chronic pain support and learning groups, Chronic pain is isolating. For high school students, who may struggle to attend school, extra curriculars, or social events, the isolation from their peers can be especially damaging. An ongoing—even lifelong—problem, chronic pain can lead to hopelessness and withdrawal from life. These groups are a place for teens living with chronic pain conditions to connect, to support one another, to learn from one another, and to figure out how to live meaningful lives despite their pain. Open to high school students who experience chronic pain, online, Mondays 4pm and/or Saturdays at 9am (choose one or both groups)
Consensual non-monogamy process group While the group gives members a chance to discuss issues specific to non-monogamous relationships, it isn't all about CNM. It's a place where people can be themselves and feel seen/understood. The group serves to give people an opportunity to work on what they need to work on where discussion isn't going to end up being all about their relationship structure or where they feel singled out or the need to obfuscate. A person’s relationship choices/identity are part of who they are, not the whole of they are. Open to adults 18+ who identify as or practice consensual non-monogamy, online, time and day TBD.
Kink process group, Currently on hold. Contact Joy to express future interest.
Our groups are process groups (with some psychoeducation and support.) Process groups focus on the thoughts and emotions members bring to the group. Rather than a set agenda, a process group offers an opportunity to help people unpack what’s happening to them. That means the group is what the members make of it and what they need it be.
Why Group Therapy?
Irvin Yalom, psychiatrist, psychotherapist, and author, argued that in group therapy “members of a cohesive group feel warmth and comfort in the group and a sense of belongingness; they value the group and feel in turn that they are valued, accepted, and supported by other members.”
Some benefits of group therapy include:
Interpersonal learning: People can learn from each other's stories.
New perspective: Group therapy can help people see their situation from a new perspective.
Sense of belonging: Group members can feel a sense of acceptance, value, and belonging.
Social skills: Group therapy can help people with social anxiety or loneliness.
Confidence: Group therapy can help people gain confidence.
Stress release: Group therapy can provide a place to vent about stress.
